Cairncastle Hill Climb 2011.

A bright Saturday morning awaited Larne Motor Club and the competitors for this years Cairncastle Hill Climb.  59 competitors arrived at the Ballycoose Road to compete in round 4 of the ANICC Hill Climb Championship.  After a torrential downpour on friday night leaving the field paddock unusable they lined up on the road side to start practice runs just after 10:00.

Local man Scott Leitch visiting the hill for his first time brought his Robin Hood home third in his class with his fastest time being 96.69s.  Club members Kevin Haveron and Arthur Peoples had a battle for top of Class 4 with Arthur beating Kevin to take class honours with a time of 86.37s.  Gardiner McIlwaine became the fastest man in Larne by winning class 7 with a time of 82.58s.

The battle for overall winner of the day was between current ANICC Hill Climb Champion Graham Thompson and Seamus Morris.  The times were very close all day with Graham setting his fastest time on the second timed run leaving him half a second from John Leinster's Cairncastle Hill Climb record.  Seamus was quick up the hill by passing mid point at 105mph but could not find the answers to Graham's speed.  A passing shower making the top half of the hill damp made sure the hill record remained unbeaten for another year.

Larne Motor Club would like to thank all marshals who gave up their time to help on the event
